What “device” means here Not your phone or your computer itself, but the browser you are using on it. Chrome and Safari on the same laptop count as two. A private or incognito window is another. Your phone's browser is another again. Each one keeps its own sign-in and settings, and knows nothing about the others on its own. That is why signing in on your phone does not sign you in on your laptop. With a membership, you can choose to have your display name and photo follow you when you sign in.

ChimeChat can remember a few optional things so you don't have to set them up again. Tick a box and we keep that item for you, so it's already there on any phone or computer where you sign in. Untick it and we delete it from ChimeChat, keeping it only on the you're using.
It starts as your first name. You can use something different. Josephine Doe might appear as "Dr. Jo Doe". Whichever you choose, ticking the box means you won't type it again on your next phone.

ChimeChat is a place to meet, and nothing left behind. A mindful way to talk and share online, designed to feel as natural, intentional and human as meeting in person: you talk, you show photos, you share documents.
When was the last time you went back to read a text message from a week ago? They serve a purpose, and then they become clutter that is not serving you. Threads stretch back years, full of context nobody asked to keep.
ChimeChat is not trying to replace how you already message, but offer another way to talk online, when conversations are better had than stored.
It works simply: a message is removed when you respond, not after a countdown and not because someone remembered to delete it. Your response IS the clearing, so nothing here needs managing. The conversation tidies itself as it goes, just like a natural one.
There is no constant and unending feed here, nothing recommended, and nothing measured about you. Most platforms are designed to hold your attention, because your attention is what they sell. ChimeChat is designed to give the conversation back to you and then get out of the way.
ChimeChat is for talking with people you already know. There is nobody to discover here, no profiles to browse, and no one you have not chosen to let in.
No inbox to manage, no history to scroll through, no residue. Just staying present in the conversation and in the moment.
A room here is a meeting, not a mailbox — you're in it together, in the moment. Out of respect for the person across from you:

Done talking? Say goodbye, then use Leave. Don't just vanish — an empty chair with no word is unkind in any room.
A room stays open as long as either of you gives it life — a message from either of you. Very rarely we may need to close one ourselves, and a system update ends any room that is live at the time. But 24 hours with no sign of activity from anyone, and it vanishes on its own, back into the ether.
Sending clears the conversation so far from your own screen. Presence is the only thing you're really giving each other — give it on purpose.
Sending: tap , pick a file (up to 15 MB) or take a photo. It stages in the composer — add a note if you like — and sends when you hit Send. Before it goes, you choose how it travels: Show — shown, not given — or Give, theirs to keep even after the room is gone. Files follow the same deletion rule as messages.
Viewing: images appear inline; PDFs and other files open full-screen in the app. Opening one does not save it to your device’s files. So that closing ChimeChat does not lose your place, your device may hold what is still on your screen, encrypted with the room’s own key, which never reaches us. That copy clears when the message clears.
Keeping and saving: a Give is theirs to keep — they tap Keep, and you’re told when they do: a deliberate acknowledgment that the file now exists outside this room. A Show offers no Keep and no save — it is here to be seen or heard, then gone. Your own files you can save yourself; on iPhone that opens the share sheet, on Android and Chrome the OS save dialog.
Honest limits: until someone replies, what you sent is on their screen — and ChimeChat can’t stop a screenshot or a second camera. It clears what it controls; it can’t control what someone chooses to keep.

Forgot it? Sign out and back in, then set a new one. Your appointments are all still there. Signing out does end any room you still have open.
Here, things are kept by a browser — not by your phone or computer.
Safari and Chrome on the same phone are two different browsers. What one keeps, the other can't see.
Clearing a browser's stored data loses whatever was kept only there.
So if you keep appointments only in this browser, use this same browser every time.
Your dashboard can ask for a quick code before it opens — useful if someone else sometimes holds your phone. It locks when you leave, and after a few quiet minutes.
Forgetting it is fine: sign out, sign in again, and set a new one. Nothing is lost. The lock protects this screen, in this browser. It doesn't change what ChimeChat itself can see.
This can't be undone. It only touches your list — the other person's list is their own.
That message is in your hands. ChimeChat doesn't send it, and can't see whether you did.
